Facts about the International Scientific Forum "Danube - River of Cooperation" (ISF"DRC")

  1. Non-formal start in 1989, registered in 1994. At the Fifteenth Conference "Danube - River of Cooperation", 2004 it was internationally confirmed that the 15-year long work of the ISF"DRC" directed toward the improvement of all forms of regional cooperation in the Danube Region, with focus on the close cooperation between the Danube countries in transition, was reasonable and successful despite all unfavourable conditions for international cooperation in that period.
  2. The International Scientific Forum "Danube - River of Cooperation" made its way and inspired many new non-governmental organizations which specialized in certain fields from the treasury of the Danube themes. Many of those 1600 participants in the activities of the ISF"DRC" in the last 15 years promoted their ideas at the conferences, round tables and projects of the Forum.
  3. The International Scientific Forum "Danube - River of Cooperation", through its activities, drew the attention of state authorities and organizations, at all levels, to the problems which should be solved in the area of sustainable use of natural resources in the Danube Region, especially in Serbia and Montenegro. This brought success despite the fact that many problems were still present. However, solving those problems belongs to the state sector while non-governmental organizations like the ISF"DRC" can only point out the necessity of solving them and offer projects which may help.
  4. In the last 15 years the cooperation with international organizations, some of which are: the Council of Europe, UNESCO, UNIDO and other agencies of the UN, the World Tourist Organization (WTO), the Global Environment Facility (GEF) where the Forum is accredited, took place mostly thanks to participation of their representatives in the activities of the International Scientific Forum "Danube - River of Cooperation".

Plans for the period ahead

  1. The International Scientific Forum "Danube - River of Cooperation" should intensify its efforts to develop stronger regional cooperation between the Danube countries, esp. the Middle Danube countries.
  2. The Forum must tighten its present cooperation with non-governmental organizations in the Middle and Lower Danube countries (Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania, Bulgaria and Moldova), should initiate new ways of that cooperation and include in its activities other non-governmental organizations in Serbia. In the same time ISF"DRC" will continue its cooperation with international organizations.
  3. In the following period the partnership between the government and non-government sector should be supported so that the problems of sustainable use of natural resources could be solved and sustainable development in all the countries in the region could be realized. However, the Forum has to nurture its cooperation more, at all levels- state, regional and local.
  4. The International Scientific Forum "Danube - River of Cooperation" should continue to pay attention to interdisciplinary programmes and projects and the most acceptable opportunities for this are offered in the area of sustainable tourism.
