International Conferences

We organize our annual international multidisciplinary conference, under the name "Danube - River of Cooperation", since 1989. Every year there is a focal point (topic) for the conference, approached from various angles. The course of the conference includes both several, more specific (narrower field) round-tables and workshops and plenary sessions.

Since 1996 the round-table conference "Sustainable Use of Natural Resources: Water and Forest" is held every year: at first as a session of the annual conference (organized in autumn), and since 2000 as a separate international conference (organized every year in the spring).

During these, nearly 20 years, about 1600 experts, scientists, people from the field of culture and arts took part in the conferences.

The papers from the conferences are published in our publications: the journal Danubius and in Conference proceedings. Sample articles are available in the on-line library.

Belgrade, January 31st. Forty three experts and representatives of NGO-s took part in the conference and gave important contributions to the analysis of various environmental problems, along with a series of initiatives and suggestions for the future work. These included the improvement of environmental education and the expansion of ecological consciousness, along with a broad cooperation of NGO-s. Concerning the use of depleted uranium weapons, the participants concluded that the so called "Balkan syndrome" (also known as "Gulf-war syndrome") moves with those who are handling these munitions and weapons.
