After democratic changes last year, Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was faced with completely different position in the international scene. Federal Republic of Yugoslavia reestablished its membership in the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and Stability Pact for South - Eastern Europe. At the same time, with re-admittance into the United Nations, FRY also returned in most of its specialized organizations and agencies. The long-term goal of international economic cooperation is the integration of FR of Yugoslavia into the European Union. The European Union member-states have so far been Yugoslav major trade and financial partners. With the lifting of sanctions, this co-operation will be promoted significantly. The EU has generously supported efforts to overcome the energy crisis and the unfavourable humanitarian situation in FR of Yugoslavia. It has, likewise, taken steps to encourage Yugoslav exports by approving asymmetric trade measures. Moreover, democratic change has also paved the way for further progress in institutionalizing our relations with the EU through negotiations on an Association and Stabilization Agreement, as a first step towards later negotiations on membership in the European Union. In that direction, first meeting of the Consultative Task Force FRY- EU has been held in Belgrade on 23. July 2001. A paper dealing with the presentation of possibilities and services of international institutions and regional initiatives in the direction of reconstruction of Yugoslav economy. Also, the major point in this article is introduction with a measure of support in financing of major infrastructure and strategic projects and priorities in the framework of Stability Pact, and importance of Danube in traffic and economic policy of the country. |
